No to Nukes: Australia’s Stand

At present, Australia only uses its cooling towers for non-nuclear power plants to generate electricity. The country’s source of electricity falls on two categories, fossil fuels (86.9%) and renewable energy (13.1%), according to BREE 2014 Australian Energy Statistics on Table O. They only use their enormous stock of uranium for medical and industrial purposes. That is why they built OPAL (Open Pool Australian Light-water Reactor) last 2006, a nuclear research reactor to serve this objective.

In addition, Australia is the major supplier of this sought-after hazardous product, the uranium, dominating 30-40% exports worldwide. Although, they have the capability to build nuclear power plants, up to this day they’re still against it.

“It has always been the case that in order for nuclear power to be considered a viable domestic energy source, it will require bipartisan political support and widespread community acceptance. The fact remains that community acceptance for nuclear power has been undermined by the Fukushima incident,” said Industry Minister Ian Macfarlane in an interview by Daily Telegraph.

Apparently, the stigma and fear for this powerful yet destructible energy source will never waver. As long as incidents such as what happened at Chernobyl and Fukushima may occur, a G20 member – Australia for this instance – will never open their doors to such inevitable threat.

They’re more interested in pursuing renewable energy resources particularly from solar and wind. Ironically speaking, Fukushima met its unfortunate fate due to nature’s indescribable and immeasurable force. Now, we must return to its cradle in order to survive the next thirty or so years. Other renewable resources Australia is currently harnessing are bioenergy, hydro, and geothermal. It seems the country is one of the supporters of Sustainable Energy for All (SE4ALL) program launched on September 2011by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

SE4ALL has three objectives, one of which is “doubling the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix” by 2030. Renewable energy is eco-friendly and cheap compared to fossil fuels that contribute to air pollution worldwide. This global initiative is same as “hitting two birds with one stone” approach. It doesn’t only solve the problem of energy or electricity shortage in the future. This may also lessen the impact of climate change that we are experiencing right now.

In this way, we don’t have to resort on desperate actions such as extracting electricity from nuclear power plants. As always, nature has everything we need in terms of natural resources and all we have to do is search for it and seize it. In return, we must be responsible ambassadors of our planet so it could still be available for the future generations.

Why my Grandfather likes to buy house and lot in Bulacan

My grandfather had filed his early retirement. He decided to look for an affordable house and lot for sale in Bulacan in Bulacan Res. I asked him, “Granpa, Why did you choose to buy a house and lot for sale Bulacan? He replied, “Bulacan is a nice place to enjoy my retirement money. This place has a cool weather plus it is very near in Manila. If there is something that you and my former company needs from me, I can quickly go in Manila to do some quick meet ups.

With this conversation,I planned to go and visit the province of Bulacan. I want to know and see for my self if my granpa’s description of the province of Bulacan is true or not.

So I packed my things and started to travel from Manila to Bulacan. As I was in NLEX (Nort Luzon Expessway), I started to smell the leaves while the fresh air was started to flow through my skin. As as I reached my destination, the town of Malolos. I felt like I was on a far place from Manila. I cannot sense any level of pollution. You can buy fresh fish and vegetables at the local market. Though Bulacan is just 30 minutes away from Manila, I saw that Bulacan province is not yet polluted.

With lots of trees ang green fields, Bulacan is a comfortable place to live in because of cool weather.
In addition to weather condition, Bulacan have also lots of heritage place. Most Philippines heroes lived and died in Bulacan for the battle of freedom. They used to hide in the thick forest and caves of the mountain of Bulacan.

Now I know why my grandfather likes to invest and buy house and lot in Bulacan. This is like a paradise to those who wants to feel closer to nature as well as to those who still wants to stay close in the city of Manila.

9 Rainy Season Activities that you'll Surely Love

It’s the month of June and we’ve just entered the rainy season. Are you done with your summer activities like going to Boracay or spending your short vacation with your relative? If you still have some of the Summer hangover blues, let me give you some family activities and relaxing ideas.

Learn Cooking – Parents should teach their children how to cook in as early as 7 years old. They could use the things that they’ve learned  in application of several situations like if they are hungry or would like to eat a snack but everyone is away for a short while.

Hide and Seek – This game is my most favorite when I was still a child. During rainy days, I will ask my cousins to play hide and seek with me. The rules go something like the “it” person will have to find his playmates with his eyes blindfolded. The playmates will have to make a noise every 30 seconds so that the “it” person could have an idea on where he could find the other players. The “it” person will be changed as soon as he touches one of the hiders.

Indoor Sports – like billiards, dart and table tennis.

Learn Magic Tricks – rainy season is the perfect time to learn magic tricks. There are lots of available e-books on the internet but I found this one very useful and complete.

Lego – A good  game where you and your family can develop your logic and designing skills.

Board Games – chess, snake and ladders, scrabble, millionaires.

Scavenger Hunt – Create a puzzle in your scavenger hunt and make creative rules and directions to the hunters. I’m sure this game will give everybody a bunch laughs and a right push of adrenalin. This game would develop analytic abilities and leadership skills.

Movie Date – A movie date with your family is a good idea but let’s give it a different twist. How about you’ll have question and answer portion after watching the movie? Sounds great, doesn’t it? I think it is much better if you consider adding a prize.

Teach your children some basic stuffs – sewing, washing clothes, changing bulbs.

The End is Neigh! – Carbon Dioxide hits 400ppm

GENEVA, Switzerland, May 26 – The World Meteorological Association announced that the average monthly concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2) in the northern hemisphere exceeded 400ppm in April, the highest monthly average record of all time. The WMO’s officials are according to the WMO’s release saying CO2 levels has risen more than 40 percent. Because plants absorb more carbon dioxide during summer when their foliage is more dense and plentiful, CO2 levels is higher during spring. Saying this, We could conclude that the CO2 level might be more than 400ppm as the towards the end of spring.

The cause of this situation is the constantly rising numbers of industrial factory and cars that produce gas emissions. This emission is defined as the burning of fossil fuels and said carbon emission greatly contributes to climate change.

The bad news is CO2 can remain in the atmosphere for hundreds of years and even longer in the ocean, so. Ocean is one of the primary source of our food. Marine species also needs oxygen just like how human needs it.  I can conclude that this is one of the factor why there are so many cases of fish kill.
These two videos made me realized what problems we are facing and how bad the situation is becoming.

1.)Oras Na (A special documentary madeby GMAnetwork – this a video documentary showing the slow death of the bodies of water.

2.)Fish Eating Birds are Dying because of Human Waste – this video will show you a sad truth about how a bird specie is dying because of human trash.

Diving in Boracay – Witness the Beauty Underneath

There are lots of activities that you could do on the Island of Boracay. If you want to know more about the different activities and Boracay packages that are available in Boracay,  you can look for their travel packages and costing at www.goboracay.com.

Who would not love the great picture of crystal clear water and species that are otherwise unfamiliar? Everyone likes to swim along with elusive groups of fish. Boracay is an island that has lots of dive spots and, for this reason alone, Boracay became famous to divers around the world.
Each and every diving shop in Boracay has made translations on their information and direction so that visitors won’t have difficulty roaming around the dive spot . The languages that the’re using are French, German, and Korean. Translating information and direction greatly help the divers who do diving as a profession as well as, and most specially, people who are diving for the first time.

There are two types of diving that you could do in Boracay.

  • Scuba Diving – is a form of underwater diving wherein a diver will carry an oxygen tank and wear a diving suit. Diving suit is necessary to be able to withstand the pressure under the water  while the oxygen tank will help the diver to breath underwater. The diver can go everywhere but with supervision of qualified PADI diver. The diver needs to equip the essential gears apart from the oxygen tank and diving suit. Two of those are barometric watch and a survival knife. Watch will tell how deep you are while the survival knife will be useful in emergency situations.
  • Helmet Diving – is an activity where a diver will have to use helmet with a hose attached to it instead of the usual snorkel and tank. This activity will just make the diver see the fishes, corals, and sponges in a shallow area, as compared to scuba diving. This activity does not require a suit unlike scuba diving.

In addition to this, Boracay also has lots of diving schools for those people who would want to be a diver someday.

6 Crazy Inventions You Could Use at the Beach

Summer season is fast approaching. Had you already prepared the things you will bring in your vacation?  Check these weird things I found on the internet while I was browsing for cool beach stuffs. A couple of weird items you might want to consider carrying with you on your way to your much-awaited summer getaway. This list is brought to you by GoBoracay.com

#1 Video Recording Sunglasses – Whoa, this stuff is more likely to buy by most men.  You can record a video in discretion without being caught by your subject because your eyes are well hidden by pseudo-sunglasses.

#2 Fake Butt – This is a helpful stuff for women who does not have the gift of a nice-looking rump. Just wear this inside your shirt and voila, you have an instant sexy body with a head-turning posterior.

#3 Sun Intensity Monitor – A cool gadget to protect the skin from sun’s harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays. A great UV ray intensity level indicator. For best results, apply sun block lotion on your body before you stroll on the beach. The Sun Intensity Monitor will become a valuable tool in the near future. As we all know, the heat of the sun is getting worse every year because of the destruction of the ozone layer caused by man’s destructive activities that harms our environment.

#4 Fish Finder Watch – A handy underwater tool, especially for divers and researchers. I personally want this gadget because I love to see different kinds of fish while I am exploring the wonders of the deep blue sea.

#5 Rear Mirror View Sunglasses – Didn’t catch a good view of that sexy body? This gadget might do the magic. Don’t be deceived by its ordinary look because without turning your head you can see things behind you. Awesome, right? You can also wear this while cycling or walking to avoid accidents.

#6 Edible Underwear One Box For HIM and For HER ) – This is what you call “hot stuff”. Some people may think this is a crazy invention though. A great stimulator for couples who are on their way to their honeymoon vacation. Most men will surely get into the mood and it will give more “flavor” to the ceremony. Go get them and rekindle your romance with your loved one this summer.

Life is a Beach

This story is from one of  the friends of GoBoracay.com - a website whose offering great Boracay packages.

Just last week ago, I was at a travel agency booking tickets to Boracay. I have always been fond of the beach. If there was any other place I wanted to propose to my girlfriend to, it would be at Boracay. It would be at the place where I first fell in love with nature.

Ideally, I plan to go there by boat, as I have always done, from Manila to Iloilo, then from Iloilo to Aklan. 8 years of this back and forth sea fare, I saw how, in every bus ride from Iloilo, more people would be hankering for a seat. The tug boats from Tagbilaran going to Boracay Island were almost always never on time anymore as hundreds if not thousands of local and international tourists scurry about, trying to catch a ride.

Today, for the first time, I’m taking a plane.

Ideally, I plan to be there as an advanced party. My girlfriend doesn’t even know I’m on this flight. I’d set up everything, from accommodations up to the dinner where I intend to pop the question. But my plans, I think, will not work as well as I had hoped.

I’ve seen Boracay go from pristine to commercial. Ideally, I have always imagined making the perfect proposal to the perfect girl in the perfect ambiance in the single perfect beach that I thought would always stay the same, in the perfectly dim lighting of a flurry of fireflies with the perfect accompaniment of nothing but the crashing waves and swaying palms and coconuts, under a perfect starlit heaven. Nowadays, spotting a firefly in Boracay is a privilege. The silent places are the ones the beach never reaches. The central parts of the island where the locales live. The beach is almost always busy with street parties and is flocked by both wandering tourist and local merchants. Even the sand is confettied with litter. The starry night sky has become an indigo memory.

Ideally, I’d call my girlfriend right now but I hadn’t charged my phone thinking I would not need it during the flight. My plans aren’t working as well as I had hoped. The Pilot on the PA tells everyone “kindly empty your pockets of sharp object.”

I do so and think of how, used to be, I made snow men out of the white sands of Boracay when I was a teen. Above, I hear the same voice in the atmosphere say “please strap your seat belts”

I remember how I plan to kiss my girl when she says yes. I remember memories that have yet to happen.

kindly brace yourselves for--”

I hear metal hit water and see the walls of the plane collapse on themselves. I remember my favorite beach and feel cold metal hit me hard on the neck.

How to Improve your Work-life Balance

“What are my priorities in life?” Have you ever asked yourself this question?

Everyone has their own priority in life. Some people may prioritize financial stability, others may go for career,  a few may want to pursue public service, and most may put family above everything. Some people tend to have many priorities. Though some aspirations may be difficult to reach, it is still possible if you can manage to balance your time. There are some well known personalities that have success in their careers, but are not building a good and harmonious relationship with their family.

Let’s now discuss what are the possible ways on how to improve the balance between your work and your life.
  • Don’t get a work that last more than 5 days per work-week – Spend the two days of your weekends with your family.  They must feel that you have time for them.
  • Limit your overtimes – Overtime can really aggravate your stress level; you cannot perform well at your work when you work beyond eight hours. Neither can you find the time to play with your kids or have meaningful conversations with your parents if you’re too spent from overworking.
  • Make a weekly activity plan – Plan ahead and make a schedule of all the social gatherings that you might or will be attending to. It can also save you from spending money beyond your monthly budget. Shortage in money can also contribute to your stress but time with your loved ones is priceless.
  • Make time for yourself – Just do the things that can may you happy and relaxed. A day in a week is enough to let yourself be inspired again.
  • Stay away from vices – Vices can ruin your schedule of activities. Sometimes when you have a hangover, you cannot perform well in your work. Always remember: do everything in moderation.
  • Do your best at work and stop complaining – Try to finish your work at the office so that you don’t have to bring your work at home. Stop complaining about your work and consider leaving if you find your work less rewarding than it is stressful.
  • Read funny memes and books – Reading funny memes and inspirational boost can greatly remove stress. Laughing releases endorphine that make us feel better.

If you would do these tips, you can balance the time you consume in your work and in your life. Remember, money is not everything; it is the simple things that bring us great joy.
